Splitr — Shared Bills is a mobile application designed to help users manage and split shared household expenses. The app requires account creation using verified email addresses and multi-factor authentication (MFA) to ensure security and restrict access to financial data.

Account Information

• Email address and/or phone number
• Verification codes for MFA (one-time use only)
• Profile information (optional)

Splitr does not collect passwords. Authentication relies on passwordless verification methods, MFA codes, or platform-native secure flows.

Roommate Information

• Roommate names
• Venmo handles

This data is used solely to facilitate bill splitting and reimbursement request generation.

Financial Data via Plaid

With your explicit consent, Splitr accesses limited, read-only financial data through the Plaid API:

• Transaction descriptions, amounts, and dates
• Merchant names

Technical Information

• Device type and operating system version
• App version
• Crash logs (scrubbed of personal data)

Splitr does not collect advertising identifiers (IDFA).

Account & Authentication

• Verify your email or phone number
• Enforce MFA before accessing financial features
• Secure account access and prevent unauthorized use

App Functionality

• Retrieve and display transaction data
• Identify shared expenses automatically
• Generate Venmo reimbursement requests

Improvement & Reliability

Splitr does not use your data for marketing, profiling, or advertising.

Splitr uses Plaid Link to securely connect bank accounts. Plaid handles authentication directly with your financial institution. Your information may be transferred to Plaid per their Privacy Policy.

Splitr receives only read-only transaction data and never receives or stores banking credentials.

At Rest

• Authentication information stored in secure user records
• MFA codes are one-time use and never stored long-term
• Plaid access tokens stored as encrypted environment variables
• Transaction metadata cached locally using iOS encrypted storage

Retention

User data is retained only as long as necessary for account access and app functionality. You may delete your data at any time via Delete Account in the account tab.

Splitr never sells user data. Data is shared only with the following parties, strictly as necessary to operate the app:

• Plaid — to securely access bank transaction data at your request
• Authentication / Verification Services — for email or SMS verification
• Infrastructure Service Providers — hosting and database providers for app operation only

No data is shared with advertisers, analytics networks, or data brokers.

• MFA required before accessing financial features
• TLS 1.2+ encryption for all data in transit
• Encrypted storage for access tokens and secrets
• Device-level encryption for iOS data
• No logging of sensitive financial data
• Restricted production system access
• Continuous security monitoring

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to:

• Access data we hold about you
• Request deletion of your data
• Update your account information
• Withdraw Plaid access at any time
